Facial Acupuncture for Bell's Palsy

What is Bell's Palsy?

Bell's Palsy is an acute, sudden-onset facial paralysis in which muscles on one side of the face are significantly weakened due to inflammation of the 7th cranial nerve. It causes motor function to weaken on facial expressions. It can affect anyone of any age, but tends to affect people 15-60 years old. Women are more prone than men to be affected by this condition.

How we can help treat Bell's Palsy

According to studies, acupuncture helps stimulate facial nerves in the face, which can restore normal function.

At Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, researchers (Wu et al.) discovered electroacupuncture and manual acupuncture can significantly improve patient outcomes for facial function and symmetry for the treatment of Bell’s Palsy: "acupuncture has been recognized as one of the main therapies for complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in the United States" (Fan, 2014).
